Dundonald Castle 17/18/19 May 2024

The project visited Dundonald Castle last weekend to record the surviving masons’ marks.

In addition to the formal recording of marks by members of the local community, pupils from P5 and P7 at Dundonald Primary School visited on Friday to explore the marks and graffiti on the building.

They had great fun and as well as finding the marks, they also discussed how much a mason would earn, what they would wear, what they ate and how old they were.

Look out for an update soon, with images of the marks found.
